Overview
How the IDTS-UWTP windshield RFID tag works at the gate
The tag is stuck on the inside of the windshield, and a UHF reader at the lane reads it through the glass while the driver stays seated. Fitted that way it reads at over 8–10 m, which gives the barrier controller time to check the tag and lift the boom as the car rolls up, rather than after it stops.
Printed for issuing and record-keeping
Every tag carries a unique serial number and the matching barcode on its face. The admin office scans the barcode to link a tag to a flat number, employee ID or registration number without typing, and a guard can read the printed number if a vehicle needs a manual check. Tags can also be printed with your society or company logo.
Tamper-proof by design
The tamper-proof construction is meant to stop one tag being shared between cars, so it suits gates that work on one vehicle, one tag. When a resident or employee changes vehicles, issue a new tag and retire the old serial in your software.
Fitting tips
- Clean the inside of the glass with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry.
- Fit the tag near the top of the windshield, behind the rear-view mirror, unless your lane design calls for another spot.
- Keep clear of metallised sun-control film and heated-glass elements, which block UHF signals.
- Press the adhesive down firmly before the first read.

Frequently asked questions
What read range does the IDTS-UWTP windshield tag give?
Over 8–10 m when it is fitted inside the vehicle windshield. Actual range depends on the reader's power, where the lane antenna is mounted and the type of glass or film on the vehicle.
Where on the windshield should it be fixed?
Near the top of the glass, behind the rear-view mirror, on clean and dry glass. Avoid areas with metallised sun film or heating elements, as they block UHF signals.
Can the tags be printed with our logo and number series?
Yes. Each tag has a unique serial number and matching barcode on the front, and customised tags with your logo and serial series can be supplied. Share your artwork and numbering when you request a quote.
Can a tag be moved to another vehicle?
It is not meant to be. The tag is tamper-proof, which is what makes it suitable for one-vehicle-one-tag access rules. Issue a new tag when a vehicle is replaced.
Is this the same as a FASTag?
No. This tag is read by your own gate reader for private access control and parking. FASTags are issued by banks for highway toll payment and are a separate product.
