Overview

ID-RP-02 RFID and password cabinet lock: card, code or both

The ID-RP-02 is a keyless lock for cabinets and lockers that combines an RFID reader with password entry. It can be programmed to open with an RFID credential alone, with a password alone, or only when both are given. It reads cards at 125 kHz and at 13.56 MHz, which covers the two card families commonly used for attendance and door access in India.

Two-factor locking for office cabinets

The combined RFID + password mode is the main reason to pick this lock for sensitive storage. A cabinet holding HR files, contracts or lab samples stays shut if someone picks up a dropped card, because the code is also needed. Equally, a code seen over someone's shoulder is no use without the card.

For storage that should only be opened with two people present, card locking can instead be set to need two different cards.

Setting it up

  1. Choose the working mode. RFID only, password only, or RFID + password.
  2. Choose private or public use. Private, the factory default, pairs each lock with one user's credential; public lets any valid credential lock any free locker, with a red LED flashing every five seconds while it is occupied.
  3. Enrol users. Register each user's card, wristband or key fob and set passwords where the mode needs them. Credentials are read within 3 cm.
  4. Fit the lock. The set comprises the front lock body, lock core, door holder module and cards. Once access is granted the door opens on its own, so no handle is needed.

Cards, key fobs and the 13.56 MHz band

Because it reads both LF and HF, the ID-RP-02 can work with 125 kHz ID or TIMIC proximity cards as well as 13.56 MHz MIFARE cards, the same band NFC uses. If you are buying new credentials for a mixed site, dual-frequency RFID cards carry an LF and an HF chip in one card.

Power

Four AA alkaline batteries provide 6 V and are rated for more than a year per set, with a standby current of 5–10 µA. A red LED warns below 4.8 V and the lock still opens more than 50 times after that; it can also be opened mechanically in an emergency. Our RFID locker lock buying guide compares cabinet lock types, and all models are listed under RFID Locks.

Frequently asked questions

Does the ID-RP-02 support a password as well as RFID?
Yes. It works in three modes: RFID card only, password only, or RFID plus password, where both must be given before the cabinet opens. The combined mode is the one to use for confidential files or samples.
Which card frequencies does the ID-RP-02 read?
It reads both 125 kHz LF and 13.56 MHz HF credentials; the listed card types are ID, MIFARE and TIMIC. Cards, key fobs and wristbands all work, presented within 3 cm of the lock.
How do private and public modes differ?
In private mode, the factory default, each lock is paired with one user's credential and opens only for it. In public mode any valid card locks any free locker, and a red light flashes every five seconds while it is occupied.
What is the difference between the ID-RP-02 and the ID-DCL-G100?
Both combine RFID with a password. The ID-RP-02 reads 125 kHz and 13.56 MHz credentials, offers an RFID + password two-factor mode and runs on AA batteries. The ID-DCL-G100 is an IP65 cam lock with a rechargeable battery, USB-C emergency power and mechanical override keys.
