Overview

Long-range UHF integrated reader for vehicle gates and parking

The IF-12 is a fixed UHF RFID reader with a 12 dBi antenna built into a 255 × 255 mm IP65 housing. With suitable tags it reads at up to 20 m, the distance vehicle gates, parking lanes and toll plazas need: the windshield tag is read while the vehicle is still approaching the barrier, so the driver does not stop to show a card.

How it works at a parking or vehicle gate

  1. Tag the vehicle. A UHF tamper-proof windshield label is fixed inside the windscreen and linked to the vehicle record in your software.
  2. Mount the reader. The IF-12 goes on a pole or gantry facing the approach lane, angled towards windshield height.
  3. Read and decide. The tag ID goes over LAN, RS485 or Wiegand to the parking or access controller, which checks the vehicle and opens the barrier.
  4. Log the movement. Entry and exit times are recorded for billing, security or fleet reports.

Other uses

The same long read zone suits production-line stations where tagged goods or carriers pass a checkpoint, long-range access control at port and customs gates, personnel tracking in manufacturing plants, automatic attendance at school entrances, and library security, laundry, hospital, event and logistics systems. The reader both reads and writes ISO 18000-6C (EPC Gen2) and ISO 18000-6B tags.

Installation and integration

The IP65 housing and −20 °C to +60 °C operating range allow mounting at outdoor gates; at 2.0 kg it needs a bracket rated for the load. Power comes from the supplied adapter (220 V AC in, 9 V / 3 A DC out), with average consumption under 10 W. RF output is adjustable up to 30 dBm, so you can turn it down to keep the read zone inside one lane where two lanes run side by side. Frequency hopping or a fixed channel is set in software, and demo software and an SDK are provided for integration. For lane layouts, see the gate and portal reader guide.

Frequently asked questions

What read range does the IF-12 give?
Up to 20 m with its 12 dBi antenna, depending on the tag. Windshield labels and long-range UHF tags reach the upper end; small labels, tags on metal and a steep mounting angle reduce it. Test on site with your own tags before fixing the pole position.
Does the IF-12 need a separate antenna?
No. The 12 dBi antenna is built into the reader housing, so one unit covers the read zone at a gate or lane, with no coaxial cable to run between a reader and an external antenna.
Is the IF-12 suitable for outdoor gates?
Yes. It has an IP65 housing and works from −20 °C to +60 °C at 10–95% non-condensing humidity, which suits open parking entries, plant gates and toll lanes.
Which frequency band does it use?
It is supplied for 865–868 MHz, India's licence-exempt UHF band, and can be customised for other regions on request. Make sure the tags you buy are rated for the same band.
Which interfaces and software come with it?
LAN, RS232, RS485 and Wiegand 26/34, with TCP/IP and Wi-Fi as options. Demo software and an SDK are supplied for building the reader into parking, access or tracking software.
