Overview
What the IDTS-RA12550 UHF RFID traffic antenna does
The RA12550 is a long, narrow antenna built for vehicle lanes. Mounted on a pole or gantry beside or above a lane, it reads the UHF tag on an approaching vehicle, typically a windscreen label, from further away than a low-gain square panel, while its 30° horizontal beam keeps the reading zone to one lane.
Why a narrow beam matters at gates
At a multi-lane entry, a wide-beam antenna can read a car in the next lane and open the wrong barrier. The RA12550 concentrates its 12 dBi gain into a 30° × 70° pattern: narrow across the lanes, taller in the vertical plane to cover windscreens at different heights. It is linearly polarised, which keeps its gain in one plane for longer reads; mount it so its polarisation lines up with the orientation of the windscreen labels.
Built for outdoor poles and gantries
- Weatherproofing: IP65 ABS radome over an aluminium reflector, rated for -40 °C to +55 °C.
- Mounting: pole mounting on poles of 100–300 mm diameter.
- Cabling: an N-type connector at the bottom suits the longer, low-loss coax runs to a reader in a roadside cabinet. DC-ground lightning protection is built in, and the antenna takes up to 50 W input.
- Size: 550 × 230 × 40 mm and 1.5 kg, so use a pole or bracket that can take the wind load at your site.
Check the frequency before ordering for India
The RA12550 is listed for 920–925 MHz and 902–928 MHz. India's licence-exempt UHF RFID band is 865–868 MHz, so for an Indian site, contact us before ordering to confirm a suitable antenna. For lanes running on 865–868 MHz, the UHF 12 dBi circular antenna is listed for that band.
What to pair it with
A traffic antenna works with a UHF fixed reader and a passive UHF tag on each vehicle, usually a windscreen label that matches the reader's band. Our guide to vehicle RFID and FASTag explains how lane reading, tags and readers fit together, and how a private gate system differs from FASTag.
Typical applications
- Parking lot lanes
- Toll lanes
- Container terminals
- Construction site vehicles
- E-vehicle access control
- Smart city vehicle checks
