Overview

A 64 × 6 mm on-metal RFID strip for tools and rails

Hand tools, gauges, rail sections and rack uprights are long and thin, which leaves little room for an RFID tag. The ID-UM6406 is 64 mm long, 6 mm high and about 1 mm thick, so it can run along a tool body or the edge of a rail, while its on-metal construction keeps it readable directly on steel. The flexible strip also follows gentle curves such as tube and handle profiles.

Typical jobs

  • Tool crib issue and return, with each tool linked to a person or job
  • Periodic checks of toolboxes and kits with a handheld reader
  • Identifying rails, rack uprights and equipment edges
  • Slim metal parts and fixtures on a production line

Chip, range and printing

The label carries an NXP UCODE 8/9 chip with a 96-bit EPC, enough for a typical tool or asset number. It responds across 860–960 MHz, covering India's 865–868 MHz band, and is rated up to 8 m depending on reader and placement. A short tool number or small barcode can be printed while the chip is encoded on a UHF RFID printer. For how NXP and Impinj chips compare, read Impinj vs NXP RFID chips; other formats are under on-metal RFID tags.

Typical applications

  • Tool tracking
  • Tool crib audits
  • Rails and racks
  • Equipment edges
  • Tubular metal items

Frequently asked questions

Can the ID-UM6406 be used on metal tools and rails?
Yes. It is an on-metal label, so it reads when stuck directly on steel, and the 6 mm strip suits slim items such as tools, racks, rails and equipment edges where standard labels either do not fit or do not read.
What read range does it have?
It is rated up to 8 m, depending on reader power, antenna and environment. Tools stored close together in drawers or metal boxes read at shorter distances, so test in your real storage layout.
Which chip does it use?
It is listed with an NXP UCODE 8/9 chip and a 96-bit EPC. If your system depends on a specific chip version, mention it when you request a quote.
How is it different from the ID-UM6006?
The ID-UM6006 is 60 × 6 mm with an NXP UCODE 8 chip and a 128-bit EPC. The ID-UM6406 is 4 mm longer and has a 96-bit EPC. Choose by the space on the item and the length of the ID your software writes.
Can I order it pre-encoded?
Yes. Labels can be printed with tool or asset numbers and supplied pre-encoded, or you can print and encode them yourself on a UHF RFID printer that handles on-metal stock.
