Overview

An 80 × 20 mm on-metal RFID label for rack beams and shelf edges

Rack beams, shelf edges and machine rails share one awkward trait: plenty of length, very little height. The ID-80X20 is shaped for them. Its 80 × 20 mm printable face carries a full location code in type large enough to read from the aisle, while the UHF chip underneath lets a reader confirm the same location on metal at up to 6 m.

Labelling racking with RFID

Decide the convention before the first label goes up: the same height and the same end of every bay, printed with the location code your WMS already uses. Apply along the length of a clean beam and keep the label off the return edge, since bending it across its width costs read range. Print and encode in one pass so the text and the chip data never disagree.

When a location will not read, look for a shelf lip or a stacked pallet shadowing the label before suspecting the tag. Our warehouse RFID implementation guide covers site survey, tag selection and rollout phase by phase.

Other long, slim metal items

The same strip suits pipe spools, machine guards and conveyor sections, long hand tools and ladders issued from a store, and the fronts of metal cabinet drawers. For an even longer face, compare the 95 × 22 mm label and other sizes in our on-metal RFID tags range.

Typical applications

  • Rack beam location labels
  • Shelf-edge labelling
  • MRO and spare-part stores
  • Pipe spools and profiles
  • Machine rails and guards
  • Ladders and long tools

Frequently asked questions

Is the ID-80X20 suitable for warehouse rack location labels?
Yes. The long, low format fits the face of a steel rack beam or shelf edge and leaves room for a printed location code. It reads on metal at up to 6 m, depending on the reader and how the label faces the antenna.
Can it go on pipes or curved rails?
Yes. Its thin, flexible substrate suits flat and curved surfaces. Clean the surface and apply the label along the pipe or rail, not across a tight bend.
Can I print our bin location codes on it?
Yes. Print and encode in-house with a UHF RFID printer, or order the labels pre-printed and pre-encoded with your location scheme.
Which reader should I use for rack audits?
A UHF handheld reader set to India’s 865–868 MHz band is the usual choice for walking aisles. Any EPC Gen2 / ISO 18000-6C reader will read the label.
