Overview

A 70 × 30 mm on-metal RFID label for returnable steel containers

Steel totes, roll cages and metal-framed trolleys circulate between plant, DC and store, and a paper RFID label reads poorly or not at all once it is stuck to them. The ID-70X30 is a flexible UHF on-metal label sized for that fleet: 70 × 30 mm leaves room for a printed container or location code, and the thin body lies flat on the steel. Read range is up to 6 m, set by the reader antenna and the metal around the label.

Where it is used

  • Returnable steel totes, cages and roll containers
  • Trolleys and handling equipment passing a dock door
  • Bin and location labels on racking faces
  • Metal spare-part bins in MRO stores

Placement for repeatable dock-door reads

Put the label in the same position on every container, on a long face where fork tines and stacked neighbours will not scrape it. Keep the printed side facing outward rather than down at the floor, and avoid deep channels in the steel that shadow the tag from the antenna. Consistent placement is what makes a container read every time it passes a gate reader or dock-door portal.

Frequently asked questions

Can the ID-70X30 be read on steel totes passing a dock door?
Yes. It is designed for metal surfaces and is rated for up to 6 m. Dock-door reads also depend on antenna placement, how fast containers pass and where the label sits, so fix it in the same spot on every container and trial one door first.
Where should I place it on a cage or tote?
On a clean, flat long face, away from corners and edges where forks or stacked containers rub, with the printed side facing out. Avoid recessed channels in the steel, which shield the label from the reader.
Can the labels come pre-printed with container numbers?
Yes. Labels can be supplied printed and encoded with your container or location numbers, or you can print and encode them yourself with a UHF RFID printer. Share the number series when you request a quote.
Which readers work with it?
Any EPC Gen2 / ISO 18000-6C UHF reader operating in India’s 865–868 MHz band: handhelds for stock counts, and fixed readers with antennas at dock doors and gates.
