Overview

What the IDTS-QR-36 QR code and RFID reader does

The IDTS-QR-36 is a wall-mounted access reader that accepts two kinds of credential: printed codes (QR codes and one- or two-dimensional barcodes) and RFID cards (EM or MIFARE). Visitors can be let in on a QR pass while staff keep using their cards, all through one reader at the door or gate.

The 86 × 86 × 18 mm body is built to the 86 box wall-mounting standard, so it fits an 86-type back box. The frame is zinc alloy with an acrylic front panel.

This is a reader only. It does not store cards, users, passwords or fingerprints. It passes the code or card number to an access control panel, card time attendance machine or multi-door controller, which decides whether to open the door.

How it connects

The reader outputs Wiegand 26/34 for access controllers, RS485 for bus wiring, and RS232 or TTL for a PC or embedded board (Windows XP/7/8/10 and Linux are supported). It runs on 8–12 V with an 800 mA working current, so size the power supply for that load. The wire colours are:

Where it is used

  • Visitor entry in office buildings and residential societies
  • Staff entry at tourist sites and administrative halls
  • Gates, turnstiles and visitor machines
  • Smart home door access

Installation notes

Switch off the power before fitting or removing the reader. The rated distances (3–6 cm for cards, up to 20 cm for QR codes) assume no electromagnetic interference and a card held parallel to the reader face; interference nearby will shorten them. For a complete door setup, see our guide to RFID access control systems, and choose matching cards from our RFID cards range.

Typical applications

  • Office visitor entry
  • Residential society gates
  • Turnstiles and gates
  • Visitor kiosks
  • Tourist site staff entry
  • Administrative hall access
  • Smart home doors

Frequently asked questions

Does the IDTS-QR-36 store users or cards?
No. It cannot store user data or add card, password or fingerprint users. It is an expansion reader that must be connected to an access control unit, card time attendance machine or multi-door controller.
Which cards does this reader accept?
It reads EM cards or MIFARE cards, plus QR codes and 1D/2D barcodes. It is not a UHF reader, so UHF cards and labels will not work with it. Confirm which card type your site uses when you order.
How far away can a card or QR code be read?
Cards are read at 3–6 cm and QR codes at 0–20 cm, with a response time under 200 ms. These figures assume an interference-free environment and a card held parallel to the reader face.
Can I connect it to a PC instead of an access controller?
Yes. Besides Wiegand 26/34 and RS485, it has RS232 and TTL outputs, and Windows XP/7/8/10 and Linux are listed as supported.
What power supply does it need?
It runs on 8–12 V with a working current of 800 mA. Use the red wire for 12 V and the black wire for ground.
