Overview

Where a 3 dBi mini UHF RFID antenna fits

The IDTS-RA3085 is for places a standard panel will not fit: inside a tool or medicine cabinet, beside a conveyor, on a machine frame or within an enclosure that a system builder designs around a reader module. At 85 × 85 × 21 mm and 75 g it is palm-sized, and it can be screwed down or held with its magnet mount on a steel surface.

A short, wide read zone

The low gain is deliberate. With 3 dBi and a 128° × 120° beam the field spreads wide but stays close to the antenna, which is what you want when a cabinet should read only its own shelf or a workstation only the tray in front of it. Circular polarisation lets tags be read whether items lie flat or stand upright. When the zone has to be several metres deep, a higher-gain panel is the better fit.

Typical uses

  • Production lines: confirming a tagged part, jig or carrier as it reaches a station.
  • Smart cabinets: one antenna per shelf or compartment to see what was taken out or put back.
  • Access control: short-range reading of UHF cards or tags at a door or turnstile.
  • Logistics: checking tagged cartons at a packing or dispatch table.
  • Embedded devices: a compact external antenna for OEM reader modules.

Connecting it

The SMA-K connector sits on a side-exit cable. The antenna covers 865–868 MHz for India and Europe and 902–928 MHz for the US. Its maximum input power is 5 W, lower than larger panels but above the output of typical UHF fixed readers.

Several mini antennas can share one reader through its antenna ports, so a four-shelf cabinet can run from a single 4-port UHF reader. Our RFID antenna guide shows how gain and beam width shape a zone, and larger panels are listed under RFID antennas.

  • Smart cabinets
  • Production line stations
  • Access control readers
  • Packing and dispatch tables

Frequently asked questions

Does the IDTS-RA3085 support India's frequency band?
Yes. It covers 865–868 MHz, the licence-exempt UHF RFID band in India under G.S.R. 853(E), 2021, and 902–928 MHz for the US.
How is the mini antenna mounted?
It supports both screw mounting and magnet mounting. The magnet option is handy on steel cabinets and machine frames, where drilling is not wanted.
Is the 5 W maximum input power a limitation?
Not with a standard reader. UHF fixed readers transmit well below 5 W, so the rating only matters if an external power amplifier is added; do not exceed 5 W at the antenna.
What read range should I expect?
The RA3085 is designed for short-range zones. Actual distance depends on the reader's power setting, the tag and what the tag is attached to, so test with your own tagged items and adjust reader power to keep the zone inside the cabinet or station.
Can I use several mini antennas with one reader?
Yes. Each antenna takes one antenna port, so a 4-port reader can run four RA3085 antennas, for example one per cabinet shelf.
