Overview
What the IDTS-RA8190 8 dBi PCB antenna is for
The IDTS-RA8190 is a flat, directional UHF RFID antenna built on a green FR4 printed circuit board. It is rated for 865–868 MHz, the licence-exempt band for UHF RFID in India, so it matches readers configured for Indian sites. At 19 mm thick and 110 g it goes where a boxed panel antenna will not: behind a wall panel, under a shelf or inside furniture.
Beam and gain
The 8 dBi gain and symmetrical 70° × 70° beam give an evenly shaped, medium-range read zone aimed where you point the board. That focus keeps reads on the conveyor section, shelf bay or doorway in front of the antenna rather than on tags off to the side. Circular polarization with an axial ratio of ≤ 2 dB keeps results consistent whichever way the tags face, and a VSWR of ≤ 1.3 means a close 50 Ω match to the reader.
Installation notes
- The side cable ends in an SMA-female connector; check your reader's antenna port and add an adapter or extension cable if needed.
- DC-ground lightning protection is built in.
- Keep metal away from the front face; plastic, wood and plasterboard panels are fine to read through.
- No IP rating is stated, so plan for indoor or in-enclosure mounting; the rated operating range is −40 °C to +55 °C.
RA8190 or RA9350?
Choose the RA8190 when space is tight or you want an even beam over a shelf or conveyor. For a longer, narrower zone at doors or cabinets, the IDTS-RA9350 9 dBi PCB antenna has a 40° horizontal beam on a larger 350 × 200 mm board. Connect either to one of our UHF RFID 4-port readers; for gain and polarization basics, read the RFID antenna guide.
Typical applications
- Conveyor read points
- Warehouse shelf reading
- Door access control
- Industrial automation
- Fixed reader installations
