Overview

The 8 dBi ID-ANT-8CP antenna for dock doors and conveyors

8 dBi is the gain class most industrial UHF RFID portals are built around: focused enough to reach across a dock opening, without the narrow beam of a 10–12 dBi antenna. The ID-ANT-8CP puts that into a 300 × 300 × 40 mm IP65 panel with a quoted read range of 6–10 m in warehouse conditions.

How a dock-door portal is laid out

  1. Mount the antennas. Usually one panel on each side of the dock door, angled toward the opening, or one above a conveyor facing down.
  2. Connect to the reader. Each antenna runs on its own coax cable to a port on a fixed reader; a 4-port reader can drive up to four antennas on one door.
  3. Tune and test. Adjust reader power and antenna angles so loads in the doorway read reliably and tags on the next dock or nearby racking do not.

Built for warehouse conditions

The IP65 housing and −25 °C to +70 °C operating range cover open docks, hot sheds and cold stores. The panel weighs 0.9 kg, accepts up to 3 W input and connects through an N-female socket to low-loss coax such as LMR-400 or RG-8. Keep cable runs as short as the layout allows, since every metre of coax loses some signal before it reaches the antenna.

Frequency and pairing

The ID-ANT-8CP is listed for 902–928 MHz. For a site in India, which uses the 865–868 MHz band, confirm the band variant when you request a quote, or consider the India-band IDTS-RA9350 9 dBi PCB antenna or the IDTS-RUCA9 9 dBi circular antenna, which has WPC ETA. Drive the antennas from one of our UHF RFID 4-port readers.

Typical applications

  • Warehouse dock doors
  • Conveyor checkpoints
  • Factory gates
  • Cold store warehouses
  • Inbound receiving portals

Frequently asked questions

What read range will I get with the ID-ANT-8CP?
The quoted range is 6–10 m in warehouse conditions. Real range depends on reader output power, cable length, the tag type and what the tag is fixed to; tags on metal or on liquid-filled items usually read shorter.
Which readers work with it?
Fixed UHF readers with external antenna ports, including our 4-port and 8-port readers. Connect each antenna to its own reader port with 50 Ω low-loss coax, such as LMR-400 or RG-8, fitted with an N-male plug at the antenna end.
How many antennas does one dock door need?
Usually two, one on each side of the door. Wide doors, tall loads or densely tagged pallets may need three or four on a 4-port reader. A site test with your own tagged loads settles the number.
Is it suitable for Indian installations?
It is listed at 902–928 MHz, while India's licence-exempt UHF RFID band is 865–868 MHz. Confirm the band variant for your site when you request a quote so the antenna and reader match.
