Overview
A compact 8 dBi UHF RFID antenna for tight enclosures
Most 8 dBi panels are around 300 mm square, which is too big for a kiosk front, a locker door or a slim portal upright. The ID-ANT-8CP-190 carries the same 8 dBi gain rating in a 190 × 190 × 30 mm housing weighing 0.5 kg, so it can be built into equipment instead of being bolted on beside it.
Built-in and OEM uses
- Tool and parts dispensers: inside the cabinet, reading tagged tools or consumables as they are taken out or returned.
- Locker systems and vending machines: behind a door or side panel to check which tagged items are inside.
- Self-service kiosks: behind the counter face for returns or check-out of tagged items.
- Narrow portals: inside uprights around 200 mm wide, where a standard panel cannot go.
- Desktop read stations: under a counter top to read several tagged items placed on it at once.
Points to check before you design it in
Metal close to an antenna face detunes it and blocks the signal, so leave clearance from metal doors and chassis parts and read through a plastic, glass or other non-metallic window. Plan the cable route early: a short, low-loss coax run from the N-female socket to the reader keeps more power at the antenna. The IP65 housing is dust-tight and protected against water jets, which helps in kiosks placed in semi-open areas.
This panel or the PCB version?
The ID-ANT-8CP-190 is specified for the 902–928 MHz FCC band. If your equipment will run in India on 865–868 MHz, the IDTS-RA8190 directional PCB antenna shares the 190 × 190 mm footprint and is rated for that band. Compare other sizes and gains in our RFID antenna range.
Typical applications
- Self-service kiosks
- Tool and parts dispensers
- RFID locker systems
