Overview

What the SY702 low-gain UHF strip antenna does

The SY702 does the opposite job of a gate or dock-door panel. Instead of pushing the reader's energy several metres, its low gain keeps the read zone to about 1 m, so the reader sees the tags on one shelf or in one drawer rather than everything in the room.

The rectangular strip measures 110 × 23 mm. That is narrow enough to run along a shelf lip, sit under a display tray or fit inside a cabinet or enclosure.

Where a strip antenna makes sense

  • Smart shelves and cabinets: one antenna per shelf or compartment tells your software which tagged items are present.
  • Drawers and bins: short-range reads for tools, files or spares kept in fixed places.
  • Retail and library fixtures: counting the tagged items on a single display or shelf.

Planning a shelf or cabinet installation

Each strip connects to an antenna port on a UHF RFID reader, so the number of shelves or compartments you want to tell apart decides how many antennas and ports you need. Metal shelving and liquids affect UHF reads, so trial the layout with your own tags and fixtures first.

For help matching antenna gain to read zone, see our RFID antenna guide, or compare options in the RFID antenna range.

Frequently asked questions

What is the read range of the SY702 strip antenna?
Up to 1 m. The short range is deliberate: low gain keeps reads inside the shelf, cabinet or drawer the antenna is fitted to, so tags elsewhere in the room are not picked up. Actual range also depends on the reader's power setting and the tags used.
How big is the SY702?
It is a rectangular strip measuring 110 × 23 mm, slim enough to mount along a shelf edge, under a tray or inside an enclosure. The strip form suits item-level inventory rather than long-range gate reading.
Which reader do I need with this antenna?
The SY702 needs a UHF RFID reader with an external antenna port, such as one of our 4-port UHF readers. Tell us your reader model when you request a quote so we can confirm the connector and cable.
Does it work on India's UHF RFID band?
UHF RFID systems in India operate at 865–868 MHz. The SY702 is listed as a UHF antenna without a narrower band figure, so confirm the band against your reader when you request a quote.
