Overview

Ceramic UHF on-metal RFID tag for instruments and small tools

The ID-C6012 is a 4 × 4 × 3 mm ceramic tag for metal items too small for a label or a PCB tag. It is bonded with epoxy or embedded into a recess on the item itself, and the ceramic body is designed to work against metal rather than be detuned by it.

Built for sterilisation and harsh handling

Its survival range of -40 °C to +250 °C covers repeated autoclave cycles, and it is specified for chemical washes, 98% non-condensing humidity and IP68 protection. The material is biocompatible, which suits reusable surgical instruments. FDA and ATEX are listed for this tag; ask for the documents if your quality or safety file needs them.

What to expect from read range

A tag this small reads at short range: up to 1.7 m on metal with a fixed reader in the ETSI band (865–868 MHz, the band used in India), and typically less with a handheld. That suits checking instrument trays, tool kits and parts bins at a station rather than reading across a room. The Alien Higgs 3 chip adds 512 bits of user memory for data such as a batch or service record.

Other small on-metal tags

If the item has a little more room, the 5 × 5 × 3 mm micro ceramic tag and the CR400 (10 × 5 × 3 mm) are alternatives. See all on-metal RFID tags.

Frequently asked questions

Can the ID-C6012 go through autoclave sterilisation?
Yes. The tag is specified for repeated autoclave cycles, with a survival temperature range of -40 °C to +250 °C, and for chemical washes. Its operating range for reading and writing is -40 °C to +85 °C.
How is the tag fixed to an instrument or tool?
It is epoxy-bonded onto the metal surface or embedded into a small recess. Use an adhesive suited to your process, for example one rated for autoclave or chemical exposure if the item is sterilised.
What read range should I expect?
Up to 1.7 m on metal with a fixed reader in the ETSI band that India uses (865–868 MHz), and up to 1.6 m in the FCC band. Handheld readers read shorter, so plan for close-range reads at a tray, bench or tool-crib station.
Which reader works with it?
Any EPC Gen2 UHF reader in India's 865–868 MHz band. For instrument trays and kits, a desktop UHF reader or a short-range fixed antenna at a check station usually works better than reading from a distance.
Can the tags be pre-encoded or customised?
Yes. Logo printing, pre-encoding and custom designs are available; share your numbering scheme and quantity when you request a quote.
