Overview

A narrow UHF on-metal RFID label for slim surfaces

Many metal assets have no flat patch wide enough for a standard tag: shelf edges, frame members, narrow door panels, the sides of electronic housings. The ID-UM6006 is a 6 mm-wide strip made for these places, adding only about 1 mm of thickness to the surface it is stuck on. Its on-metal construction keeps it readable directly on steel.

Chip and memory

It uses the NXP UCODE 8 chip with a 128-bit EPC, which leaves room for longer asset or location codes than the common 96-bit format. The chip responds across 860–960 MHz, so it works with readers set to India's 865–868 MHz band. Read range is rated up to 8 m. Slim tags are generally more sensitive to how they face the reader, so trial placement on a few assets before tagging a whole site.

Printing and ordering

The strip prints and encodes on UHF RFID printers; with a 6 mm print height, keep the printed content to a short ID or a small barcode. Labels can also be ordered pre-printed and pre-encoded. For a 64 × 6 mm strip with a 96-bit EPC, compare the ID-UM6406, or browse all on-metal RFID tags.

Typical applications

  • Shelf and rack edges
  • IT equipment edges
  • Narrow metal panels
  • Field asset management
  • Manufacturing fixtures

Frequently asked questions

Where does a 6 mm-wide on-metal label make sense?
On metal items too narrow for a standard label: shelf and rack edges, slim panels, frames and the sides of equipment housings, in warehouses, plants and field sites. Its thin, flexible body also follows gentle curves.
What is the read range of the ID-UM6006?
It is rated up to 8 m, depending on the reader, antenna and surroundings. On metal and with a handheld reader, the working distance is usually shorter, so test on your own assets before ordering in volume.
Why does the 128-bit EPC matter?
Most asset numbers fit in 96 bits, but a 128-bit EPC leaves room for longer codes, for example a site or location prefix plus a serial number. Your asset software decides how the EPC is structured.
Can it be printed and encoded in-house?
Yes, on a UHF RFID printer that handles on-metal label stock. Alternatively, order the labels pre-printed and pre-encoded with your numbers.
