Overview

A large-format on-metal RFID label for heavy equipment

When an asset has to be recognised from across a yard as well as scanned, label size matters. The ID-80X40 gives an 80 × 40 mm printable face, enough for the asset number, a barcode, the owner’s name and a logo in type that can be read at a distance. The UHF chip holds the same identity and reads on metal at up to 6 m. The bigger face adds print area; the rated read range is the same as on the smaller labels in this family.

Where the bigger label pays off

  • Compressors, generators and construction machines in a hire fleet
  • Tanks, process vessels and drums identified from ground level
  • Steel stillages and pallets moving between supplier and OEM
  • Large moulds and dies stored on racks

Fitting and commissioning

Apply to a cleaned panel, high on the machine and facing the direction traffic passes, away from recesses that shadow the tag. The flexible body follows the curve of a tank or drum. If assets are read at a gate, walk one through at working speed and adjust antenna aim and tilt before raising reader power. Replace any label that gets painted over during an overhaul.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose 80 × 40 mm over a smaller on-metal label?
For print area. The larger face holds a complete asset plate in type that can be read from a distance. The rated read range, up to 6 m, is the same as on the smaller labels in this family.
Can it go on a curved tank or drum?
Yes. The substrate is thin and flexible, suitable for flat and curved metal surfaces. Clean the surface first and press the label down evenly across its whole area.
Can a gate reader pick it up as equipment leaves the yard?
It can be read by fixed UHF readers as well as handhelds. Gate reads depend on antenna position, where the label sits and how fast the equipment moves, so commission the gate with a tagged asset before going live.
Can I order them pre-printed?
Yes. Labels can be supplied printed with your artwork and encoded with your numbering, or printed and encoded in-house on a UHF RFID printer.
