Overview

Flexible on-metal RFID strip for pipes and tubes

The ID-55X15 is a long, narrow on-metal label for surfaces where a square tag would overhang: pipe spools, conduit, extrusion profiles and the spine of a steel cabinet. As a thin, bendable label rather than a moulded block, it lies along a tube or rounded edge and leaves the rest of the surface free for hazard markings and paint.

Where it is used

  • Plant shutdowns: identifying pipe spools, valves and flanges through turnarounds.
  • Electrical contracting: conduit, cable tray and busbar runs.
  • Equipment hire fleets: scaffold tubes, props and formwork panels counted out and back in.
  • Workshops and yards: tool cabinets, trolleys and returnable metal stillages.

Fitting tips

Run the strip along the length of a pipe or rail instead of wrapping it around the circumference; a tight wrap distorts the antenna and shortens read range. Clean and dry the surface, then press the full 55 mm down in one stroke. In a dense pipe rack, read each label face-on and leave some space between neighbouring tags.

Frequently asked questions

Will the ID-55X15 read on curved pipes?
Yes. Its flexible substrate applies to flat and curved metal. On pipes, lay it along the length of the pipe rather than wrapping it around, so the antenna is not distorted.
What read range does it give?
Up to 6 m, depending on the antenna and environment. Reader power, tag orientation and nearby metal all change the practical distance, so test it on your own pipework or racking first.
Which readers and printers work with it?
Standard UHF RFID readers and printers. The strip responds across 860–960 MHz, so it reads on readers set to India’s 865–868 MHz band; for site surveys of pipe racks or hire yards a handheld reader is the usual choice.
Can the strip be printed?
Yes. The face is printable, so a barcode and serial number can be printed while the same number is encoded, using a standard UHF RFID printer.
