Overview
What the hard RFID jewellery tag does
Each piece of jewellery gets its own small rigid tag with a unique ID, linked to that item’s record in your stock software. Instead of lifting and ticking off pieces one at a time, staff pass a reader over a tray, showcase or safe drawer and the tagged items are counted together. Pieces missing from the expected list show up straight away, and scanning a tag at the counter brings up that item’s details for the customer.
UHF or HF: picking the version
UHF (EPC Gen 2)
Reads many tags at once from a distance, so it suits whole-tray counts with a handheld or smart tray and walk-around showroom audits.
HF (13.56 MHz, ISO 15693)
Reads at short range, which suits item-by-item checks at the counter where only the piece in front of the reader should respond.
Fitting the tag
Use the hangtag loop on rings, earrings and pendants so the tag hangs clear of the metal; a tag pressed flat against gold or silver reads over a shorter distance. Frequently asked questions
How is the hard jewellery tag attached?
Through its hangtag loop, which suits rings, earrings, pendants and bangles, or with adhesive where the tag goes on a box, card or holder. The tag can be removed when the piece is sold.
Does it read on gold and silver jewellery?
Metal shortens the read range of a tag pressed flat against it, so hang the tag from the piece rather than sticking it to the metal surface. Test with your reader on a full tray before tagging all stock.
Should I choose the UHF or the HF version?
UHF (EPC Gen 2) for counting whole trays, showcases and safes in one pass. HF (13.56 MHz, ISO 15693) for short-range, one-item-at-a-time checks at the counter.
Which reader do I need?
For UHF, a UHF handheld reader or smart tray for counting and a desktop reader for encoding new stock. For HF, a 13.56 MHz reader that supports ISO 15693.
How is this different from the reusable jewellery tag?
The hard tag is fixed to each piece by loop or adhesive. The reusable jewellery tag clips on or uses a string loop with no adhesive and is re-encoded for new stock after each sale.
