Overview

A square ICODE SLIX2 book label for smaller items

This 50 × 50 mm label carries the ICODE SLIX2 chip and works at 13.56 MHz on ISO 15693, the HF standard behind most library RFID systems. Its square shape is the reason to pick it: it fits inside the cover of paperbacks, thin journals, children's books and spiral-bound reports, where an 80 mm label would run into the spine or overhang the edge.

Identity and anti-theft in one label

The chip holds the item ID used at the issue counter, at self-service kiosks and during stock checks. Its EAS bit raises the alarm if an item that has not been issued passes the security gate. Reading distance is about 1 cm on a desktop pad and up to 1 m at a gate, depending on the reader, and several labels can be read at once.

Roll format and printing

Labels come on a roll with a 3-inch core and a 66 mm liner, with the 45 × 45 mm inlay centred in each label, which keeps hand-tagging at a workstation quick. The face can be printed with the chip UID, an accession barcode, a QR code or the library logo, and other sizes can be made to order.

For larger books, where the extra antenna area helps at the gate, see the 80 × 50 mm SLIX2 label. More options are in HF RFID inlays and labels.

Typical applications

  • Slim books and journals
  • Library self-checkout
  • Exit-gate anti-theft
  • Diamond tracking

Frequently asked questions

Which items suit the 50 × 50 mm label?
Slim books, paperbacks, journals, children's books and reports, anywhere the inside cover is too narrow for an 80 mm label. For standard and large books, the 80 × 50 mm SLIX2 label gives a bigger antenna.
Will it work with our existing library gates and kiosks?
If your system uses ISO 15693 (ICODE) HF labels, it should read this label. Ask your system supplier which data model it writes to the chip so new labels are encoded the same way as your existing stock. UHF library systems cannot read it.
Does the label have EAS anti-theft?
Yes. The ICODE SLIX2 EAS bit triggers the exit-gate alarm for items that have not been issued, so one label handles both identification and security.
How are the labels supplied?
On rolls with a 3-inch core and a 66 mm liner. Printing of the UID, accession barcode, QR code or logo is available, and the library RFID guide covers the readers and gates that go with them.
