Overview

What the ID-HDL38 MIFARE 1K inlay is for

The ID-HDL38 is the RFID component itself rather than a finished card or tag: a MIFARE Classic 1K chip joined to a 13.56 MHz antenna on a thin, flexible film. Card manufacturers laminate it between PVC sheets, label converters place it under a printed face stock, and integrators build it into wristbands, baggage tags and pallet cards.

Wet or dry: which form to order

Wet inlay

Backed with adhesive on a release liner, so it can be applied straight to a surface or under a printed label.

Dry inlay

No adhesive. Chosen when the inlay will be laminated into PVC cards or sealed inside another material.

Why MIFARE Classic 1K

MIFARE Classic 1K is one of the most widely supported HF chips. Its 1 KB memory is divided into sectors, each protected by its own keys, which is why it is used for prepaid and stored-value cards, membership and access control. Most ISO 14443A card readers can read its UID without setup. HF reads at short range by design, so only the card or tag held at the reader responds.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a wet and a dry inlay?
A wet inlay has adhesive and a release liner, so it can be stuck on directly like a sticker. A dry inlay has no adhesive and is meant to be laminated into cards or sealed into another product.
Can the ID-HDL38 be laminated into printed PVC cards?
Yes. It is thin and flexible, so the dry form can be laminated into PVC cards, and both forms can be converted into labels or tags.
Will it work with my access control or attendance reader?
It will if the reader works at 13.56 MHz and supports MIFARE Classic (ISO 14443A). It will not work with 125 kHz proximity readers that use EM4100-type cards. Our reader compatibility guide explains how to check.
Can a mobile phone read a MIFARE Classic 1K inlay?
Many NFC phones can read MIFARE Classic, but support varies by handset. If staff or customers will tap with phones, an NTAG213 inlay is the safer choice; see our NTAG213 wet inlay.
