Overview

What the IDTS-HRP60 portable USB RFID reader does

The HRP60 is built like a pen drive: it plugs straight into a USB port on a laptop or desktop, takes its power from that port and reads cards held 5–10 cm away. There is no cable or adapter to pack, so it is the reader to carry when cards are enrolled away from the office, for example at a registration camp, a new branch or a client site.

Typical uses

  • Card enrolment on a laptop: reading each new card's number into attendance or access software before it is issued.
  • Registration drives: issuing membership, student or event cards at a temporary desk.
  • Shared workstations: plugging in only when a card needs checking, then unplugging.
  • Installers and integrators: a pocket test reader for checking cards on site.

HF or LF version

The HRP60 is supplied for one band, so match it to the cards you use:

VersionReadsTypical cards
13.56 MHz (HF)HF smart cards and tagsMIFARE-type ID and access cards
125 kHz (LF)LF proximity cards and fobsOlder attendance and door cards, key fobs

Software and integration

Free demo software is included to test reads with your own cards, and an SDK is provided for the read/write model so the reader can be built into your application. It supports answer, active and trigger operating modes with a software-programmable reading rate, and a buzzer confirms every read. The IP40 housing is meant for indoor use from -20 °C to +60 °C.

For a reader that stays on one desk, the slim HRD20 is the alternative; for phones and tablets with a micro USB port, use the IDTS-HMR-65. All models are listed under HF RFID readers.

Typical applications

  • Laptop card enrolment
  • Registration camps
  • Shared workstations
  • Installer test reader

Frequently asked questions

Does the HRP60 need a cable or power adapter?
No. It plugs directly into a USB port, which also powers it. At 15 g it can stay on a keyring or in a laptop bag.
Should I choose the 13.56 MHz or the 125 kHz version?
Choose the version that matches your existing cards: 13.56 MHz for HF smart cards such as MIFARE-type cards, or 125 kHz for LF proximity cards and key fobs. Each HRP60 reads one band only, so confirm your card type before ordering.
What is the read range?
5–10 cm. Hold the card close to the reader; a buzzer confirms each read.
Can I use the HRP60 with my own software?
Yes. Free demo software is included for testing, and an SDK is provided for the read/write model for integration into your application.
How is the HRP60 different from the HMR-65?
The HRP60 has a standard USB plug for laptops and PCs. The IDTS-HMR-65 has a micro USB connector and is aimed at phones, tablets and compact devices.
