Overview
What the HRD20 HF desktop reader does
The HRD20 is a compact 13.56 MHz reader for the desk. Plug it into a PC's USB port, which also powers it, and it reads HF cards and tags held over it at 5–10 cm. A buzzer sounds on every read, so the operator knows the card has registered without looking up.
At 17 mm high and 170 g it takes very little space beside a keyboard. It comes in black, blue, orange or white, which helps it match the counter or tell readers apart when several desks share one room.
Where the HRD20 is used
- Front desks and reception: registering a visitor or member card against a name in your software.
- Attendance enrolment: capturing the number of each new employee's card before it is issued.
- Libraries and institutes: reading member cards at the issue counter.
- Counters and kiosks: quick card look-ups where a full encoding station is more than you need.
Software and integration
Free demo software is included so you can test the reader with your own cards. An SDK is provided for the read/write model, so tell us whether you only need to read card numbers or also want to write data when you order. The reader supports answer, active and trigger operating modes, and its reading rate is programmable from software. For how readers hand data to attendance, ERP or library systems, see our guide to RFID software and middleware.
The housing is IP40 rated for indoor use, working from -20 °C to +60 °C at up to 80% non-condensing humidity.
HRD20 or another HF reader?
If cards are being encoded in volume and developers need a reader writer, the IDTS-RWS9 desktop reader writer is designed for the issuing desk. If the reader has to travel with a laptop, the pen-drive style IDTS-HRP60 is easier to carry. The HRD20 reads 13.56 MHz only; for 125 kHz proximity cards and key fobs, use the LF USB desktop reader.
Typical applications
- Reception and front desks
- Card enrolment counters
- Attendance registration
- Library issue counters
- Membership desks
