Overview

UHF RFID LED label for finding the right cable

In a patch panel or cable tray, a printed marker only tells you what a cable is once you have found it. The ID-4111-KX gives each cable a UHF RFID identity and adds an LED, so a technician with a UHF reader can identify a cable electronically and use the light to pick it out from its neighbours. The reader drives the LED, so confirm that your handheld or software can trigger it before ordering in volume.

Why UHF for cable labelling

UHF reads at a distance and can pick up many tags in one pass, so a handheld can sweep a whole rack or tray instead of touching each label. The read range is listed up to 6 m; among dense bundles and metal racks the working distance is shorter. The KX2005XBL chip carries a 96–240-bit EPC plus 1312 bits of user memory, enough for a cable reference, circuit ID or termination point stored on the label itself.

Size and fitting

The 41 × 11 mm antenna sits on a larger 95 × 30 mm die-cut label, so check that footprint against the space on your cables and panels before ordering. Keep the antenna area off bare metal trays and enclosures, because metal directly behind a standard UHF label reduces read performance.

For one-at-a-time checks with a phone, compare the ID-7556 NFC LED cable label. More formats are in RFID specialty labels.

Typical applications

  • Data centre patching
  • Electrical panel wiring
  • Telecom racks
  • Cable trays
  • Plant room cabling
  • Utility cable records

Frequently asked questions

What is the LED on the ID-4111-KX for?
It acts as a locator. When a supported UHF reader addresses the tag, the LED lights, so a technician can see which cable in a bundle carries that ID. Check that your reader or software can trigger the LED before rollout.
What read range should I expect?
Up to 6 m is listed, depending on the reader, antenna and environment. In dense cable bundles and metal racks the practical distance is shorter, so handheld readers are normally used close to the tagged cables.
What can I store in the user memory?
The KX2005XBL chip has 1312 bits (164 bytes) of user memory in addition to the EPC, enough for a short cable reference, circuit ID or termination details written with a UHF reader.
Should I pick this UHF label or the NFC LED cable label?
Pick the ID-4111-KX if your staff use UHF handhelds and want to read a whole tray in one pass. Pick the NFC ID-7556 when checks are one cable at a time and a smartphone is the reader.
Can the labels be supplied pre-encoded?
Yes. Cable IDs can be encoded before supply; mention your numbering scheme when you add the ID-4111-KX to your quote list.
