Does this UHF tag work on metal surfaces?

Yes. The Identium UMLT is an on metal UHF tag made to be mounted directly on metal, unlike standard paper or label tags which do not read reliably on metal or liquid. Its ABS/PC enclosure resists impact and it is rated IP68 for use from minus 25 to plus 85 degrees Celsius.

What is the read range of the UMLT long range metal tag?

This page lists the UMLT reading distance as up to 15 metres, with the long range design quoted up to 25 metres on metal surfaces. Actual range depends on reader output power, antenna gain, the size of the metal surface and the surrounding environment, so onsite testing is advised.

What size is the UMLT metal tag and how is it marked?

The UMLT measures 100 x 30 x 6 mm and weighs about 9 grams, in an ABS/PC housing available in white, grey, black, orange or blue. Marking options include laser engraving, laser marking and a polyester label, so asset numbers, logos and barcodes can be added.

Which chip and frequency does the UMLT on metal tag use?

The UMLT uses an Alien Higgs 9 UHF chip with EPC up to 496 bits and 512 bits of user memory, working across 840 to 960 MHz. That covers the 865 to 867 MHz band notified by WPC for India, and the tag is fully passive, so it needs no battery.
