RFID Race Timing Shoe Tag
RFID Race Timing Shoe Tags (also called "chip tags" or "timing chips") are disposable UHF RFID tags designed to be attached to a runner's shoe lace or bib number for marathon, 10K, triathlon, and cycling event timing. They are read automatically as the athlete crosses timing mats at the start line, split points, and finish line.
How Race Timing RFID Works
- Organisers attach shoe tags to each participant's laces before the race
- Timing mats (antenna arrays) are laid across the track at timing points
- As each runner crosses the mat, their tag is read and the time is recorded in milliseconds
- Results are available online within minutes of crossing the finish line
